We are recruiting for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accountant for a civil engineering firm to oversee financial transactions, project accounting, and reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards. Key Responsibilities Financial Oversight


  • Manage and supervise all aspects of the company’s accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, invoicing, and general ledger activities.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with a focus on accuracy and timeliness. Perform industry comparison and align spend with strategic company growth measures
  • Maintain clear and transparent financial records to ensure compliance with regulatory and The FAR, particularly Part 31 and CAS.
  • Help establish and manage shareholder distributions.
  • Prepare business annual tax filings and Annual Overhead Rate according to FAR Part 31


Budgeting and Forecasting


  • Develop and manage annual budgets in collaboration with departmental heads, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Prepare financial forecasts to guide short-term and long-term decision-making.
  • Analyze budget variances and recommend actionable solutions to optimize financial performance. (Cost Saving, tax savings, etc)


Compliance and Risk Management


  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, as well as industry-specific financial requirements.
  • Design and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
  • Assess financial risks and propose mitigation strategies to protect the company’s interests.


Collaboration and Leadership


  • Work closely with the executive team to provide financial insights and support strategic decisions.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to monitor project budgets, costs, and profitability of each department


Specialized Insights for Civil Engineering


  • Monitor financial performance of large-scale civil engineering projects, including infrastructure developments and public works.
  • Understand and manage the financial implications of construction contracts, including change orders, retainage, Prime and Subconsultant invoicing, and progress billing.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and economic conditions that could impact the company’s financial health.


Qualifications Educational Background


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation is strongly preferred.
  • CDA, CEPA, MSA


Professional Experience


  • 5+ years of experience in financial management or accounting, preferably in Civil Engineering, construction, or related industries.
  • Proven track record of managing complex budgets and financial operations.


Skill Set


  • Strong proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Ajera, ADP Total Source, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills to liaise effectively with diverse teams.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
